    • Picture books- should be read 2-3 times before returning

    • Chapter books- should be read once before returning

  3. Penalty for a lost or damaged book: the student must submit payment for the cost of the book that was lost or damaged.

    • If your child loses or damages a book, you will receive a letter explaining the cost of the book.

  4. A student may not check out a new book until the fees have been paid. Overdue fees are not collected.

Accelerated Reader Guidelines:

  1. Your child will take a MClass Dibels Assessment each nine weeks, in which they will receive their Lexile Level for the marking period. With their given level, they will select books that fall within that level and meet their interests. They can select books from their classroom library, school library, myOn, home, public library, etc. If you are unsure if a book is on AR, you can log onto www.arbookfind.com or refer to the link on the TES website under the "Media Center" page.

  1. AR testing will be completed at school . On average, 5-10 questions will be asked of the book your child reads. Once completed, points will be rewarded to your child and recorded on their AR account. They can view their progress for the marking period or year under "My Progress." Please talk with your child about reading their books thoroughly and taking their time on tests to have the best chance at a passing score.

  1. Before taking an AR test, students should meet the following criteria:

    • Picture book: should be read 2-3 times before testing to ensure they comprehended the story.

    • Chapter Books: can be read once before testing.

  1. On average, students should take no more than 1 to 2 AR tests per day to ensure they are taking their time reading and comprehending the material.

  1. At the end of the school year, I present students with awards for meeting their AR point goal all 4 nine weeks (with 70% or greater accuracy) and also for students who earn a yearly average of 90% accuracy on tests. For students to receive these awards, the books they read/test on must be on their level. To make the 90% Club, students must meet all 4th nine weeks point goals & maintain a 90% accuracy for the year. To keep check of your child's accuracy, you can log in to your child's account, click the Accelerated Reader tile, and select "my progress." If you would like to see their overall yearly progress, make sure the marking period is set at “2024-2025.”
