You can go to the archives of Tallassee basketball history, but you probably will not find a larger margin of victory. It is believed that the Tigers 81-10 win over Ellwood Chrisitian on Senior Night Thursday set the record for the most-lopsided in varsity boys basketball.
The varsity girls team were also victorious by a score of 63-37. The same THS girls team won a similar game in November over BTW-Magnate 67-7, also believed to be a record.
While the goal it to win, a win of this magnitude is not the desired outcome even for the winning coach.
"I felt really bad," said Tallassee's Keiven Mixson. "I couldn't sleep."
Tallassee led 17-0 before the Eagles got on the scoreboard with 15 seconds remaining in the first period. It was 43-6 at halftime.
Mixson cleared the bench early playing his younger guys. Rowen Thornton led all scorers with 15 in limited play. A trio of seniors also stepped up on their special night. Jamarrion McCoy had 13 points. Jakai McCoy added 12. Roderious Glover had 11.
"(I'm) very proud as always of our seniors," said Mixson. "Jamarrion has started for three years and played with me for four. He's an incredible competitor. Jakai has been with me for four as well and been one of our best defenders. Roderious transferred in and has steadily grown and knocked down shots for us all season. I'm so glad he came here for his senior year. It's been really great to watch him progress."
The Tallassee girls team is 16-8 this season
Tallassee (12-10) travels to No. 2 Valley (11-1) on Tuesday, Jan. 23. The JV game tips off at 4:30 p.m. followed by the varsity girls and boys games.
