With reclassification and realignments come new schedules. THS retained its Class 5A status for the 2020-21 and 2021-22 cycle with the AHSAA. Now the Tigers have set their football schedule for that period. And the excitement is already building.
The announcement of the Reeltown/Tallassee series renewal was made months ago. Now, we know that the first game will be played in Tallassee.
The Tigers and Class 3A Rebels will kick off the season at J. E. "Hot" O'Brien Stadium on Thursday, Aug. 20. The two programs last met in 2003.
Tallassee renews its rivalry with 6A Wetumpka in 2020 as well. The two last played in 2003. The game will be the first game in Wetumpka's new stadium. The Tigers have played the Indians more than any other opponent, 67 times in all.
The two other non-region games will be against 5A teams, Pike Road and Carroll of Ozark. THS will travel to Pike Road for the first-ever meeting. Carroll, a region foe last season, will be the final game of the regular season and Senior Night in Tallassee.
Cross-county foes Elmore County and Holtville become region opponents with both moving up in classification. The matchup with the Panthers will be on Sept. 18 in Eclectic. The Bulldogs come to Tallassee for homecoming on Oct. 16.
Tallassee's final region game will be at two-time defending Class 5A state champion Clay-Central on Oct. 23.
