The THS track team competed at the AHSAA Indoor State Track Meet this past weekend at the Crossplex in Birmingham. Both the girls and boys teams had members competing in the Class 4A-5A division.
Girls: Chloe Baynes (60mh, Triple Jump) Belle Haynes (Triple Jump, Long Jump) Lexi Love (Shot put) Avary Lumpkin (Shot put)
Boys: Michael Moore (60mh) Ethan Stevenson (400m, 800m) KJ Love (4x200, 400m) Jareece Edwards (4x200) Jalen Cobb (4x200) Joseph Hooks (4x200)
Baynes brought home a silver medal in the 60 meter hurdles and a bronze in the triple jump.
“Chloe was worn down physically coming into the meet, but she rose to the occasion and recorded a personal record (33’3) in the triple jump to get the bronze to break her own school record.” head coach Danny Worley said.
Baynes was third in prelims for the 60 qualifying for Saturday.
“Once again Chloe rose to the occasion and matched her PR in the 60 meter hurdles final to get the silver.” Worley added. "The girls results were also highlighted by junior shotputter Lexi Love. She PR’d by over a foot with a throw of 27’2 breaking the THS indoor record and barely missing the final by least than a foot. She finished in tenth place.
“(I'm) very proud of Lexi and her result,” said Worley. “She started throwing a month ago!”
The boys competed hard and gave it their all but unfortunately were unable to score. Results were highlighted by Ethan Stevenson running a PR in the 800m 2:15’70.
“This was a really hard working group of athletes. They showed up and practiced hard every day with no issues or complaints. The girls fit track practice in between softball and dance. We appreciate Coach Love working together with us.”
