It was a good showing by the Tallassee High School wrestling team, but the Tigers were unable to advance in the opening round of the state regional duals at Benjamin Russell over the weekend. There were eight participants including Tallassee. The matches were moved from Opelika to Alex City. The Tigers defeated Russell County (60-22) and Opelika (54-24) on Friday to earn the top seed in their bracket. On Saturday, THS lost to Benjamin Russell 42-33. That put Tallassee just outside of the top two required to move on to the next round. "We wrestled really well and it was great to get back out there and compete," said head coach John Mask. "Usually we wrestle every team in the region. This tournament was set up in a pool-play type format, so we didn’t wrestle Pike Road or Beauregard." It was the Tigers' first action in over a month. Tallassee has matches in Eclectic, Beulah and Beauregard this week. Due to finals, next week's match at Stanhope Elmore has been moved to Jan. 19. |
