Tallassee City Schools System is delighted to report remarkable outcomes from Tallassee Elementary School's third graders on the recent Alabama Comprehensive Assessment Program (ACAP) Reading Summative Assessment, which was recently released by the Alabama State Department. The percentage of students meeting the grade level cut score rose from 82.2% in 2023 to 94% in 2024. This year's results highlight a notable improvement.
The impressive performance of Tallassee Elementary School’s third graders reflects the dedication and hard work of both students and teachers. Educators have adopted the "science of reading," an evidence-based method that concentrates on how children learn to read. This approach emphasizes explicit instruction in phonics, phonemic awareness, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. Over the past three years, teachers have completed the Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling (LETRS) training that is deeply connected to the science of reading.
The improvement in the third-grade passing rate and the exceptional performance of our students are causes for celebration and stepping stones for future successes. The ACAP reading assessment results for Tallassee City Schools' third graders highlight the positive impact of dedicated teachers and evidence-based reading instruction. As the district celebrates these achievements, it remains committed to sustaining and building upon this success for the benefit of all students.
